Description
Stachys globosa (also called Globe Betony, among many other common names) is a perennial herbaceous plant native to Europe and Asia. It is found in meadows, grasslands and open woodlands. It has a hairy stem, and its leaves are heart-shaped and toothed. It produces pink to purple flowers.
Uses & Benefits
Stachys globosa is used as an ornamental plant in gardens and as a groundcover. It is also used to attract butterflies and other pollinators.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Stachys globosa has white to pink flowers and small, black seeds. The seedlings are small and have a rosette of leaves at the base.
Cultivation and Propagation
Stachys globosa can be propagated by seed or division. Seeds should be sown in spring in a cold frame. When they are large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and plant them out in the summer. Division in spring or autumn. Larger clumps can be replanted direct into their permanent positions, though it is best to pot up smaller clumps and grow them on in a cold frame until they are rooting well. Plant them out in the spring.
Where to Find Stachys globosa
Stachys globosa can be found in the eastern United States, primarily in the states of New York, Pennsylvania, and Ohio.
