It is native to India, Nepal, and Bhutan, and is found in tropical and subtropical moist montane forests. It is a herbaceous perennial with yellow, fragrant flowers and long, narrow leaves.

Very easy, larger clumps can be replanted direct into their permanent positions, though it is best to pot up smaller clumps and grow them on in a cold frame until they are rooting well. Plant them out in the spring. Cuttings of half-ripe wood, July/August in a frame. Good percentage.
