Description
Piresiella strephioides (also called Strephioid grass, among many other common names) is a perennial grass species native to Central and South America. It is found in meadows, pastures, and roadsides, and is tolerant of dry conditions.
Uses & Benefits
Piresiella strephioides is used as an ornamental plant and is often grown in gardens and parks. It is also used in traditional medicine to treat various ailments such as fever, headache, and skin diseases.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flower of Piresiella strephioides is a small, yellow, star-shaped flower with five petals. The seed is a small, black, triangular-shaped seed. The seedlings are small, thin, and green.
Cultivation and Propagation
Cultivation and propagation of Piresiella strephioides can be done by seed or division. Seeds should be sown in spring in a cold frame and the seedlings transplanted when large enough to handle. Division can be done in spring or autumn. Larger divisions can be planted out direct into their permanent positions. We have found it best to pot up the smaller divisions and grow them on in a cold frame until they are established.
