Description
Hordeum vulgare (also called Common Barley, among many other common names) is an annual grass species in the genus Hordeum. It is native to Europe and grows in meadows, steppes, and other open habitats. It has a short stem and a spikelet with two to four flowers. The spikelet is usually green, but can also be yellow or purple.

Hordeum vulgare is used as a forage crop for livestock, as well as for soil erosion control and as a cover crop. It is also used in landscaping and as a decorative plant.
