Description
Physcomitrium arenicola (also called Sand Broom Moss, among many other common names) is a species of moss in the family Funariaceae. It is native to North America, Europe and Asia, and prefers to grow in dry, sandy habitats, such as in deserts and beaches.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flower of Physcomitrium arenicola is small and white, with 6 petals. The seed is a small, black, round seed. The seedlings are small, with narrow, pointed leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Physcomitrium arenicola can be propagated through spores or by division of the plant. Cultivation of this species is best done in moist, acidic soils with plenty of organic matter. It prefers partial shade and can tolerate temperatures down to -20°C.
