Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Ephedra sinica has small, yellow-green flowers with four petals. Its seeds are small and black, and its seedlings have thin, needle-like leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Ephedra sinica is a hardy, drought-tolerant plant that can be grown in a variety of soils. It prefers full sun and can tolerate temperatures down to -20°F (-29°C). Propagation is by seed or cuttings. Seeds should be sown in spring or early summer in a well-drained soil and kept moist until germination. Cuttings can be taken in late summer or early autumn and should be kept moist until they have rooted.
