Description
Elaeocarpus oblongilimbus (also called Oblong-leaved Elaeocarpus, among many other common names) is a small to medium-sized tree, growing up to 15 m tall. It is native to tropical and subtropical regions of India, Sri Lanka, southern China, Thailand, and Vietnam. It is found in evergreen and semi-evergreen forests, as well as in dry deciduous forests.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flowers of Elaeocarpus oblongilimbus are small, white and bell-shaped. The seeds are small and round, with a hard outer shell. The seedlings are small and delicate, with light green leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Elaeocarpus oblongilimbus can be propagated by seed or cuttings. Seeds should be sown in a well-drained seed-raising mix and kept moist. Cuttings should be taken from semi-ripe wood and rooted in a mix of sand and peat. The plant prefers full sun to partial shade and moist, well-drained soil.
