Description
Elaeocarpus nitentifolius (also called Shiny-leaved Elaeocarpus, among many other common names) is a small to medium-sized tree, growing up to 15 m tall. It is native to tropical and subtropical regions of India, Sri Lanka, southern China, Thailand, and Vietnam. It is found in evergreen and semi-evergreen forests, as well as in dry deciduous forests.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Elaeocarpus nitentifolius has small, white flowers with five petals and a bell-shaped calyx. The seeds are small and black, and the seedlings are thin and spindly.
Cultivation and Propagation
Elaeocarpus nitentifolius is an evergreen tree, usually growing to a height of 10-15 m. It prefers a sunny position in a well-drained soil. Propagation is usually by seed, which should be sown in spring in a warm, sunny position. It can also be propagated from cuttings.
