Description
Matelea riparia (also called Riverbank Matelea, among many other common names) is a perennial, woody, climbing vine with long, thin stems and small, white flowers. It is native to South Africa, and is commonly found in moist forests and along riverbanks.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Matelea riparia has white flowers with five petals. The seeds are small, black and round. The seedlings are thin, with long, narrow leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Matelea riparia is a succulent plant that is easy to propagate from cuttings. To propagate, take a cutting from the stem of the plant and allow it to dry for a few days. Then, place the cutting in a pot with well-draining soil and water lightly. The cutting should root in a few weeks. It can also be propagated from seed, but this is more difficult and time consuming.
