Kenya has always been a force to reckon with when it comes to fresh produce exporting. The country has been enjoying greater demand for fresh fruits and vegetables especially Kenyan avocados, mangoes and french beans. One of the most notable and quickly rising sources of these demands is Russian retail shops, who have now discovered that Kenya’s fresh produce represents the best in the world in terms of quality.
A trade agreement between Russia and several East African countries may have influenced the demand too. Some Russian retailers who have interest in the produce include several renown brands who have intensified the fresh produce imports from Kenya. At the beginning of 2015,this had been an impossible dream. But the Kenya- Russia trade barriers seem to be quickly fading away. Recently. IN fact the Fresh Produce Exporters Association of Kenya has also signed a deal with Trademark East Africa and this has enhanced the market.
The tropical climate that Kenya enjoys ensures that a wide range of fresh produce can be comfortably grown here. It also does not need a lot of coaxing to get good returns. This has made the fresh produce from this region outstanding when it comes to quality. From French beans to snow peas, pineapples, avocados, mangoes and pawpaws, Kenyan produce stands tall in the world both as unique and healthy. The exporting bodies have also become keener to observe all the European Union food safety regulations. This has made it easier for the European market to trust Kenyan products as they feel more assured of its quality.
The national airline Kenya Airways has direct flights to most European destinations. Not only does Kenya produce fruits and vegetables, it is also a great exporter of flowers. The East African country is now one of the biggest competitors after Netherlands and locally, Ethiopia.
Nairobi, Kenya’s capital, has quickly grown into one of the regional hubs for trade. The reason why Kenya is taking the lead as a fresh produce exporter is because of renewed effort to produce the best. Trade agreements and partnerships have also played a major role in this transformation. Horticulture farmers are definitely getting returns for their efforts, while global consumers are happy that the fresh produce coming from Kenya is outstanding.
