Ethiopia parsley (Petroselinum crispum) is a plant that serves as a medicinal herb and a spice for garnishing meals. The leaves, which are sparing like those of the carrot with a crown of branched flowers at the top in mat-like fashion, feature in meals as a top sprinkled dressing. The origin of the plant is the Mediterranean region where the herb still thrives in cultivated form even today.
We source Ethiopia parsley from the southern zone. The area has the well-drained soil and moderate temperatures above 22°C and below 30°C, which are the optimum bracket for growing the plant. The family growers keep it in plots of land that have plenty of sun and less shade as the plant assimilates its nutrients through solar rays.
Parsley consists of about 221 percent of vitamin C, which is more than two times that of most fresh fruits and vegetables. Dietary fiber for good digestion comes at around 13 percent of the daily value. Parsley is also a good source of iron which represents 34% of the daily value for haemoglobin transportation in blood. The herb is an essential antioxidant for overcoming toxins that cause degenerative diseases.
We cut parsley at the crown of the plant. Our workers slice the stalks holding the leaves at about 1 inch or 1 and 1 1/4 inches slightly above the base. To make the harvesting fast, our farmhands usually bundle several leaf bunches of close-by plants and carefully cut their collective stalks as if they were one plant. They then sort them into proper bunches while grading them at the same time. Afterward they tie them with twisted stretchable bands for transportation to the packing shed. Usually, the longer the stalks the better the produce becomes for bunching and thus we recommend long stalked cuttings.
We pack parsley right on the farm to keep the leaves in the same condition as they were when growing. We use corrugated cartons with waxed interiors. At least 60 bundles of tied Ethiopia parsley go into each box. They usually weigh between 9 and 11 kilograms per carton.
We also pack Ethiopia parsley out of the field by transporting it into the packing shed when there are contaminants and for sorting. At the shed, we remove any yellowed leaves and sort the healthiest into the waiting cartons. Each of the produce not packed right at the farm undergoes pre-cooling through top ice insertion in each package.
We store Ethiopia parsley just above freezing point at 0° Celsius or a maximum 2° Celsius. We have special warehouses for herbs and spices like parsley, basil, tarragon and other vegetables.
Immediately after the packing process is over, we carefully bundle Ethiopia parsley into custom loading vehicles that have refrigerated interiors. We deliver the shipment to the airport in Addis Ababa at least one day before the due date so that the shipment can reach you on a timely basis.
