Ethiopia cottonseed oil is the product of the cotton plant which the country produces in thousands of bales per year. The cotton thrives in virtually all parts of the country where the altitude is low to moderate. Parts lying between 1000 and 1400 meters elevation provide the best crops. The harvest of the seeds takes place primarily for oil production purposes. Unlike the bales which go into fabric production, the seed’s content is edible in the form of processed vegetable fat.

Cottonseed oil is a healthy vegetable salad fat with high potassium, vitamin B-6 and magnesium. Protein represents 66 percent of the daily value while magnesium stands at 110 percent of the daily needs. Some of the health benefits include the fact that though the seeds have 50 percent saturated fats of the daily value, the fats are easily digestible. Thus they are beneficial as weight loss agents.

After harvesting cottonseeds, we prepare them for processing. The first step in the making of Ethiopia cottonseed oil is the cleaning of the impurities. We first remove the debris of stalks and leaves, as well as the husk and other stains. There are also artificial impurities like dirt, sand and metals, the last of which we get off by magnets. We then grade the best seeds and keep them separately from the faulty ones. This ensures that the final raw materials we use have less than 0.1% of foreign materials.

We then use a metal roller to break the cottonseed hulls into similar sizes. The similarity ensures that the processing machine will be set the same calibration for all. For this reason our pieces are as no thicker than 0.5 millimeters. We ensure this size for all by hand sizing along the edges, a tedious process but one that gives 100 percent oil yield.

The third step in the extraction of Ethiopia cottonseed oil is that of cooking. We steam dry the seeds in one or two layers per pan at between 95 to 100°C. This removes much of the hindering moisture. When done well, this can reach between 12 and 14 percent. The cooking process takes place in 1 hour.

We cold press Ethiopia cottonseed oil in a hydraulic system one to two times to remove as much oil as possible. The crushed pieces usually go through a rotating screw that continuously squeezes them with the resulting oil flowing into a beaker. It then goes into a filtering system. The crude oil consists of just 1 percent of impurities. We refine the oil to remove this impurity which is usually gossypol, a toxic extra nutrient that is essential for natural defenses against pests when the plant is growing. Each seed has a total oil yield of 15 to 25 percent of the total dry matter.

We pack Ethiopia cottonseed oil in jerry cans, PET bottles or tin bottles. We provide jerry cans of 3 to 5 liters for each pack. Bottles come in smaller capacities of between 1 and 1.5 liters. We provide a second packaging reinforcement in the form of a carton box. It contains a film lined bag in its interior which acts as an airtight placement area for the bottles. All the bottles come in full seals, corks and clear labeling.

We store cottonseed oil from Ethiopia in airtight containers before delivery under temperatures between 5° and 25° Celsius. We also ensure that during transportation, the temperature does not increase by more than 14°C as this may lead to an increase in volume by 1 percent due to melting.

Therefore, you can expect delivery of fresh, pure Ethiopia cottonseed oil on the same day of processing or 1 to 2 days of shipping. We source our raw materials from cottonseed growers in the country who possess Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) certificates. This means our oil is high quality and meets safe standards. We ship sizable packages of more than 1 ton per your request. We charge some of the most competitive prices among regional exporters. You can start by making an order today!
