Rwanda rapeseed (Brassica napus) or canola is a cabbage family member with leguminous attributes that produces the third most common vegetable oil in the world. After the mechanical harvester both harvests and threshes the pods, we then take the harvest to the curing shed for drying. The seeds will be completely cured on their 14th day after harvesting. By now about 30 or 40 percent of all harvested seeds will have altered to a deeper color. We let the moisture levels drop to 9 to 10 percent for storage purposes.

We may opt to roast the rapeseed to a crisp blackish-golden color for better preservation. We oven-roast the seeds at low temperatures to ensure that they do not lose their moisture levels during this period.
