Description
Hedychium tocucho (also called Tocucho Ginger Lily, Butterfly Lily, and Tocucho Butterfly Ginger, among many other common names) is a species of flowering plant in the Zingiberaceae family. It is native to India, Nepal, and Bhutan, and is found in tropical and subtropical moist montane forests. It is a herbaceous perennial with white, fragrant flowers and long, narrow leaves.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flowers of Hedychium tocucho are yellow, with six petals and three sepals. The seeds are small and black, and the seedlings are short and dark green.
Cultivation and Propagation
Hedychium tocucho can be propagated by division or by cuttings. Division in spring or autumn. Very easy, larger clumps can be replanted direct into their permanent positions, though it is best to pot up smaller clumps and grow them on in a cold frame until they are rooting well. Plant them out in the spring. Cuttings of half-ripe wood, July/August in a frame. Good percentage.
