Description
Citharexylum hidalgense (also called Hidalgo's fiddlewood, among many other common names) is an evergreen shrub or small tree native to tropical America. It grows in moist, shady areas and is often found in woodlands, savannahs, and along riverbanks.
Uses & Benefits
Citharexylum hidalgense is used as an ornamental plant in gardens and parks. It is also used as a windbreak and for erosion control.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Citharexylum hidalgense has white flowers with five petals and yellow anthers. The seeds are small and black. The seedlings have long, narrow leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Citharexylum hidalgense can be propagated from seed or cuttings. Seeds should be sown in a well-draining soil mix and kept moist. Cuttings should be taken from healthy, mature plants and rooted in a moist soil mix. Both methods require bright, indirect light and temperatures between 65-75°F (18-24°C).
