Description
Pilea peploides (also called Artillery Plant, Rockweed, or Gunpowder Plant, among many other common names) is an evergreen, perennial, creeping, mat-forming, succulent herbaceous plant. It is native to tropical regions of South America, and is found in moist, shady habitats. It has small, round, green leaves with a reddish-brown underside, and small, white flowers.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Pilea peploides has small, white flowers and its seeds are small, black and round. Its seedlings have two, oval-shaped cotyledons.
Cultivation and Propagation
Pilea peploides can be propagated by stem cuttings or division. It prefers a well-draining potting mix of equal parts peat moss, perlite, and vermiculite. It should be kept in bright, indirect light and should be kept moist but not soggy. Fertilize monthly during the growing season.
