Description

Taxus canadensis (also called 'Canadian Yew', among many other common names) is a species of plant in the family Taxaceae. It is an evergreen shrub or small tree, usually growing up to 10 m tall. It is native to North America, where it is found in Canada and the United States. It is found in forests, as well as in disturbed habitats such as roadsides and secondary forests.

Cultivation and Propagation

Taxus canadensis can be propagated by seed or cuttings. Seeds should be sown in spring in a cold frame. When they are large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and grow them on in the cold frame for at least their first winter. Plant out into their permanent positions in late spring or early summer, after the last expected frosts. Cuttings of half-ripe wood, 5 - 8cm with a heel, July/August in a frame. Plant out in the following spring.
