Description
Talinella pachypoda (also called Thick-footed Talinella, among many other common names) is a species of fern native to India. It is a terrestrial fern with a creeping rhizome and fronds that are pinnate-pinnatifid. It is found in moist forests, in the understory of trees, and in shady places.
Uses & Benefits
Talinella pachypoda is used as an ornamental plant, for erosion control, and as a food source for birds and other animals.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Talinella pachypoda has small, yellow flowers with four petals. The seeds are small, black and round. The seedlings have a single, long, thin leaf with a pointed tip.
Cultivation and Propagation
Talinella pachypoda is a hardy, evergreen fern that is easily propagated from spores or division of the rhizomes. To propagate from spores, collect the spores when they are ripe and sow them on a sterile, moist medium. To propagate from division, carefully divide the rhizomes and replant in a moist, well-draining soil. Cultivation of Talinella pachypoda requires partial to full shade, moist soil, and protection from strong winds.
Where to Find Talinella pachypoda
Talinella pachypoda is native to East Asia and is found in moist, shady places in lowland forests.
