Description

Symplocos subandina (also called Subandean Symplocos, among many other common names) is a shrub or small tree, up to 8 m tall, with a trunk up to 30 cm in diameter. It is native to Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru, and is found in humid montane forests at elevations of 1000-3000 m. It is a shade tolerant species.

Symplocos subandina is used in traditional medicine for treating skin diseases and as an antiseptic. It is also used as an ornamental plant in gardens.
