Description
Rytigynia caudatissima (also called Caudatissima Rytigynia, among many other common names) is a shrub or small tree that grows up to 5 m tall. It is native to Central and South America, and is found in tropical and subtropical forests. It has dark green, leathery leaves and small white flowers with a long, trailing stem.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Rytigynia caudatissima has small, yellow-green flowers with yellow anthers. The seed is a small, brown, flattened, ovoid nut. The seedlings have a single cotyledon, a short hypocotyl and two small, opposite, simple leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Rytigynia caudatissima can be propagated by seed or cuttings. Seeds should be sown in a well-drained soil mix and kept moist until germination. Cuttings should be taken from healthy, mature plants and rooted in a moist, well-draining soil. Once established, Rytigynia caudatissima should be fertilized regularly and kept in a sunny location.
