Description
Ixora pyrrhostaura (also called Flame of the Woods, Jungle Flame, Jungle Geranium, Jungle Geranium, among many other common names) is a shrub or small tree with glossy, dark green leaves and clusters of small, bright red flowers. It is native to India, Sri Lanka, and the Andaman Islands. It is commonly found in tropical and subtropical forests, as well as in disturbed areas.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flowers of Ixora pyrrhostaura are white, with four petals and a yellow center. The seeds are small, brown and oval-shaped. The seedlings are small, with green leaves and white flowers.
Cultivation and Propagation
Ixora pyrrhostaura can be propagated by seed or cuttings. Seeds should be sown in a well-drained potting mix and kept moist. Cuttings should be taken from semi-hardwood and placed in a moist potting mix. Both should be kept in a warm, humid environment until they have rooted.
