Description
Galium parishii (also called Parish's Bedstraw, among many other common names) is an annual herb that grows up to 30 cm tall. It has small, white flowers and whorled leaves. It is native to California and grows in meadows, pastures, and roadsides.
Uses & Benefits
Galium parishii is used as an ornamental plant in gardens and as a ground cover. It is also used as a medicinal plant to treat skin diseases and as an antiseptic.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flower of Galium parishii is small and white, with four petals. The seeds are small, round and black. The seedlings are small and thin, with small, oval-shaped leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Galium parishii is a perennial herb that can be propagated by division or by seed. To propagate by division, divide the clumps of plants in early spring or fall and replant them in a sunny area with well-drained soil. To propagate by seed, sow the seeds in a sunny area with well-drained soil in early spring. The seeds should be lightly covered with soil and kept moist until germination occurs. Once the seedlings have emerged, thin them to the desired spacing.
