Description
Euclinia squamifera (also called 'Scaly Euclinia', among many other common names) is a shrub native to Australia. It grows up to 4 m in height, with a trunk diameter of up to 10 cm. It is found in coastal and sub-coastal areas of New South Wales and Queensland, in dry sclerophyll forest and heathland habitats.
Uses & Benefits
Euclinia squamifera is used as an ornamental plant in gardens and parks. It is also used as a medicinal plant for treating colds, coughs, and other respiratory illnesses.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flower of Euclinia squamifera is a white or cream-coloured cup-shaped flower with four petals. The seed is a small, hard, woody capsule with a single seed inside. The seedlings have a single, oval-shaped leaf with a pointed tip and a waxy surface.
Cultivation and Propagation
Euclinia squamifera can be propagated from seed or cuttings. Seeds should be sown in a well-drained seed raising mix and kept moist. Cuttings should be taken from semi-hardwood and treated with a rooting hormone. The cuttings should be kept in a warm, humid environment and kept moist until they have rooted.
Where to Find Euclinia squamifera
Euclinia squamifera can be found in the tropical rainforest of Central and South America, including Costa Rica, Panama, and Peru.
