Description
Bertiera chevalieri (also called Chevalieri Bertiera, among many other common names) is a species of orchid found in Central and South America. It is a small epiphytic orchid with long, thin stems and small, yellow flowers. It is native to Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia, and is found in humid montane forests at elevations of 800-2000 m.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flower of Bertiera chevalieri is white or yellowish-white, with a yellowish-green lip. The seed is a small, round, black seed. The seedlings are small and have a single leaf.
Cultivation and Propagation
Bertiera chevalieri can be propagated from seed or by division of clumps. Seeds should be sown in spring in a well-drained medium. Division should be done in spring or autumn. The plants should be grown in a moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil in partial shade.
