Description
Argostemma ridleyi (also called Ridley's Argostemma, among many other common names) is a species of orchid native to Central America and South America. It is found in the tropical rainforests of Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia. It is a terrestrial plant that grows in shady, humid, and wet places, usually near streams and rivers.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flower of Argostemma ridleyi is small, white and star-shaped, with a yellow center. The seed is a small, dark brown, oval-shaped capsule. The seedlings are thin and delicate, with small, light green leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Argostemma ridleyi is a perennial herb that can be propagated by seed or division. It prefers a well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. It can be propagated by seed sown in spring or autumn, or by division of the rhizomes in spring. It is best grown in a sheltered position.
