Description
Prunus ulei (also called Ule's Cherry, among many other common names) is a species of flowering plant in the rose family, native to Central America. It is a deciduous tree, growing up to 15 meters tall, with a trunk up to 40 cm in diameter. It grows in moist, well-drained soils in open forests, woodlands, and scrublands.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flowers of Prunus ulei are white, with five petals and a yellow anther. The seeds are small, dark brown and oval-shaped. The seedlings are slender and have long, pointed leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Prunus ulei is a deciduous shrub that can be propagated by seed or cuttings. It prefers full sun and moist, well-drained soil. It can tolerate partial shade and is drought tolerant. It can be propagated by taking softwood cuttings in the spring or semi-hardwood cuttings in the summer. Seeds can be sown in the spring or fall in a cold frame or in pots outdoors. The seedlings should be transplanted to their permanent location in the spring.
