Description
Prunus ruiziana (also called Mexican Plum, among many other common names) is a species of flowering plant in the rose family, native to Mexico and Central America. It is a deciduous tree, growing up to 10 meters tall, with a trunk up to 40 cm in diameter. It grows in moist, well-drained soils in open forests, woodlands, and scrublands.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flowers of Prunus ruiziana are white, with five petals and a yellow anther. The seeds are small, dark brown and oval-shaped. The seedlings are slender and have long, pointed leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Prunus ruiziana is a deciduous tree that can grow up to 10 m tall. It prefers full sun and well-drained soil. Propagation is usually done by seed, but can also be done by cuttings and layering. It is a hardy species and can tolerate drought and frost.
