Description
Alchemilla subnivalis (also called Alpine lady's mantle, among many other common names) is a perennial herb native to the mountains of Central Asia. It has a rosette of basal leaves with long petioles and small, yellow-green flowers. It grows in dry, rocky habitats, such as alpine meadows and scree slopes.

Alchemilla subnivalis has small, yellow flowers with five petals and yellow stamens. The seed is a small, dark brown nutlet. The seedlings are small, with a single pair of oval-shaped leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Alchemilla subnivalis can be propagated by seed or cuttings. Seeds should be sown in spring in a cold frame. When they are large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and plant them out in the summer. Cuttings of half-ripe wood, 5 - 8cm with a heel, July/August in a frame. Softwood cuttings in spring in a frame. Layering in late summer. Division of suckers in the dormant season.
