Description
Acaena juvenca (also called Juvenile Bidibid, among many other common names) is a species of flowering plant in the rose family, native to New Zealand. It is a low-growing, evergreen shrub growing to 0.2–0.5 m tall, with three-lobed leaves and small, bright red flowers in summer. It grows in open grassland, scrubland, and coastal habitats.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Acaena juvenca has small, yellow flowers with five petals. The seeds are small and black, and the seedlings are small and covered in tiny hairs.
Cultivation and Propagation
Acaena juvenca is a low-growing, clump-forming perennial with attractive, bright green, divided leaves. It is best grown in full sun or partial shade in moist, well-drained soil. Propagate by division in spring or autumn.
