Description

Rhamnus imeretina (also called Imeretian Buckthorn, among many other common names) is a shrub or small tree with a rounded crown and grey-brown bark. It is native to the south-western Cape in South Africa, and is found in rocky outcrops, sandy flats, and in fynbos.

Uses & Benefits

Rhamnus imeretina is used in traditional medicine for treating skin diseases, as a diuretic, and as an astringent. It is also used as a dye for fabrics, and its leaves are used as a fodder for livestock.

Rhamnus imeretina has small, white flowers with yellow centres. The seeds are small and black. The seedlings have small, oval shaped leaves.
