Tristachya leiostachya (also called Slender Three-Awn, among many other common names) is a perennial grass native to Africa. It grows to a height of up to 1 m and has a clumping habit. Its leaves are linear and have a rough texture. It is found in grasslands, savannas, and open woodlands.

Cultivation and Propagation

To propagate by seed, sow the seed in a cold frame in the fall or early spring. The seed should germinate in 1-3 months at 15°C. When the seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into individual pots and grow them on in the greenhouse for at least their first winter. Plant them out into their permanent positions in late spring or early summer.
