Description

Sporobolus coahuilensis (also called Coahuila Dropseed, among many other common names) is a perennial grass native to Mexico and the southwestern United States. It grows in a variety of habitats, including deserts, grasslands, and open woodlands. Its leaves are narrow and pointed, and its flowers are small and greenish-brown. It is a low-growing grass, reaching a height of up to 1 foot.

Sporobolus coahuilensis is used as an ornamental grass in landscaping and is also used for erosion control and as a soil stabilizer.

Cultivation and Propagation

Sporobolus coahuilensis is a warm-season grass that grows best in full sun and well-drained soils. It is drought tolerant and can tolerate a wide range of soils. Propagation is by seed or division of the clumps. Seeds should be sown in the spring or summer and should be kept moist until germination. Division of the clumps should be done in the spring or fall.
