Description
Schizostachyum tessellatum (also called 'Tessellatum', 'Tessellatum Bamboo' and 'Tessellatum Bambou', among many other common names) is a species of bamboo native to Southeast Asia. It is a clumping bamboo, growing up to 8 m tall with culms up to 5 cm in diameter. It grows in tropical and subtropical climates in both lowland and montane forests.
Uses & Benefits
Schizostachyum tessellatum is used as a source of fuel, construction material, and for making paper. Its leaves are also used to make mats, baskets, and hats.

Schizostachyum tessellatum has small, yellow flowers that are borne in a dense, terminal panicle. The seeds are small and black, and the seedlings have a single, unbranched stem with long, narrow leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Schizostachyum tessellatum is an evergreen grass that grows up to 1.2 m (4 feet) tall and 0.6 m (2 feet) wide. It has arching, linear, bright green leaves. It is best grown in full sun to part shade in moist, well-drained soil. Propagate by division in spring or summer.
