Description

Sasa rubrovaginata (also called 'Red-zasa', among many other common names) is a species of bamboo native to Japan, Korea and China. It is a low-growing, clumping bamboo species that typically grows to heights of 1-2 m (3-6 ft). It prefers moist, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade and is often found in grasslands, open woodlands, and along roadsides.

Cultivation and Propagation

Sasa rubrovaginata is a low-growing, evergreen bamboo native to Japan. It grows in dense clumps of stems that reach up to 1m tall. The leaves are oval-shaped, dark green in colour and have a silvery-white underside. The stems are green and have a white stripe running along the length. It is best grown in partial shade in moist, well-drained soil. Propagation is by division of the clumps in early spring.
