Sasa occidentalis (also called Western Bamboo, among many other common names) is a perennial evergreen grass native to western North America. It is a low-growing, clumping grass with thick, leathery leaves and short, stiff culms. It grows in moist, shady areas and is often used as a ground cover or in rock gardens.
