Description

Muhlenbergia gypsophila (also called Gypsum Muhly, among many other common names) is a perennial grass native to the southeastern United States. It has narrow, upright leaves that are green to gray-green in color and grow up to 30 cm long. The flowers are pink to purple and bloom in the late summer and fall. It is found in open woodlands, prairies, and disturbed sites.

Muhlenbergia gypsophila is used as an ornamental grass and as a ground cover. It is also used to control erosion on slopes.
