Description
Merostachys vestita (also called Hairy Feathergrass, among many other common names) is a perennial grass native to South America. It has a tufted habit and grows to a height of up to 1.2 m. It is found in open grasslands, savannas, and disturbed areas.
Uses & Benefits
Merostachys vestita is used as an ornamental plant in gardens and for landscaping. It is also used as a ground cover and for erosion control.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flower of Merostachys vestita is a white or pinkish-white color with a yellow center. The seed is a small, black, round seed. The seedlings are small and slender with dark green leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Merostachys vestita is a perennial herb native to the Andes Mountains of Colombia. It can be propagated from seed or by division of the rhizomes. It prefers moist, well-drained soils and full sun to partial shade. It can tolerate temperatures down to -10°C (14°F) and is drought tolerant once established.
