Description
Leptochloa srilankensis (also called Sri Lankan Beaked-grass, among many other common names) is an annual grass species native to tropical and subtropical regions of the Old World. It is a tufted grass with erect culms and long, flat leaves. It is found in open, dry habitats, such as grasslands, savannas, and roadsides.
Uses & Benefits
Leptochloa srilankensis is used as a forage grass for livestock, as well as for erosion control and soil stabilization.

Leptochloa srilankensis has small, yellow-green flowers with three petals and three sepals. The seeds are small, dark brown, and slightly flattened. The seedlings have long, narrow leaves that are slightly hairy.
Cultivation and Propagation
Leptochloa srilankensis is a low-growing, evergreen grass that grows up to 1 m tall. It is native to India and prefers moist, well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. Propagation is by seed or division. Seeds should be sown in spring and divisions should be taken in late summer.
