Description
Lasiacis sloanei (also called Sloane's grass, among many other common names) is a perennial grass native to South America. It is a tufted grass with a short, erect stem and long, narrow leaves. It grows in moist areas, such as riverbanks and wet meadows, and is often found in disturbed areas, such as roadsides and pastures.
Uses & Benefits
Lasiacis sloanei is used as an ornamental plant in gardens. It is also used to make traditional medicines and for its antiseptic properties.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Lasiacis sloanei has small, yellow-green flowers that are densely arranged in a cylindrical panicle. The seeds are small and black, and the seedlings are thin and grass-like.
Cultivation and Propagation
Lasiacis sloanei can be propagated from seed or cuttings. Seeds should be sown in a well-drained, sandy soil mix and kept moist. Cuttings should be taken from healthy, mature plants and planted in a well-draining soil mix. Both methods should be done in the spring or summer when temperatures are warm. Lasiacis sloanei prefers full sun and regular watering.
