Description
Koeleria dersu (also called Dersu's Hairgrass, among many other common names) is a perennial grass native to Russia. It grows up to 1 m tall and has linear leaves. It is found in grasslands and meadows.
Uses & Benefits
Koeleria dersu is used as an ornamental plant in gardens and as a ground cover. It is also used in erosion control and as a soil stabilizer.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Koeleria dersu has small, yellowish-green flowers that are clustered in the axils of the leaves. The seeds are small, black, and round. The seedlings are small and have a single pair of cotyledons.
Cultivation and Propagation
Koeleria dersu is a fast-growing, perennial grass that can be propagated by seed or division. It prefers moist, well-drained soils and full sun to partial shade. It can be grown in containers or in the ground. To propagate by seed, sow the seeds in a sterile seed-starting mix and keep the soil moist. To propagate by division, dig up the clump and divide it into smaller sections. Plant the sections in a pot with moist soil. Keep the soil moist and the divisions should root in a few weeks.
