Description
Festuca borderei (also called Bordere's Fescue, among many other common names) is a perennial grass that grows up to 1 m tall. It is native to Europe and is found in dry grasslands and rocky slopes. It is tolerant of dry soils and can tolerate some shade.
Uses & Benefits
Festuca borderei is used for erosion control, as a ground cover, and as an ornamental grass in landscaping.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flower of Festuca borderei is a small, greenish-white spikelet, with a single floret. The seed is a small, dark-brown caryopsis. The seedlings are thin and grass-like.
Cultivation and Propagation
Festuca borderei can be propagated by seed or division. For seed propagation, sow the seeds in a well-drained soil mix in a sunny location. Keep the soil moist but not soggy. Division is best done in the spring or fall. Carefully dig up the plant and divide the clump into smaller sections. Replant the divisions in a sunny location with well-drained soil.
