Description
Eragrostis egregia (also called 'Lovegrass', among many other common names) is an annual grass native to Africa and Asia. It grows to a height of 0.2–1 m (0.7–3.3 ft) and has an erect stem. It has a fibrous root system and its leaves are flat and linear. It is found in dry grasslands, woodlands, and savannas.
Uses & Benefits
Eragrostis egregia is used as a forage crop for livestock, as a soil stabilizer, and as an ornamental plant in gardens.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Eragrostis egregia has small, greenish-white flowers and small, light brown seeds. The seedlings have small, oval-shaped leaves and are light green in color.
Cultivation and Propagation
Eragrostis egregia can be propagated by seed or division. For seed propagation, sow the seeds in a well-drained soil in a sunny location. Water the soil regularly and keep it moist. Once the seedlings emerge, thin them out to prevent overcrowding. For division, dig up the clump and use a spade or knife to divide it into smaller clumps. Replant the clumps in a sunny location with well-drained soil.
Where to Find Eragrostis egregia
Eragrostis egregia is native to South America and can be found in Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
