Description
Elymus tridentatus (also called Trident Wild Rye, among many other common names) is a perennial grass species native to Central Asia and the Caucasus. It grows in sandy and rocky soils, and is often found in steppes, semi-deserts and alpine meadows. It has a tufted habit and can reach up to 1.5 meters in height. Its leaves are flat, narrow and have a rough texture.
Uses & Benefits
Elymus tridentatus is used as an ornamental plant in gardens and parks. It is also used for soil stabilization and erosion control.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Elymus tridentatus has small, yellow-green flowers that are arranged in a spike-like inflorescence. The seeds are small, dark brown and have a warty surface. The seedlings have a single, erect stem with narrow, linear leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Elymus tridentatus is a perennial grass native to Eurasia. It is a low-growing, clump-forming grass that grows up to 1 foot tall and spreads by rhizomes. It prefers full sun and well-drained soils. Propagation is by seed or division of the rhizomes.
