Description
Elymus tenuis (also called Slender Wild Rye, among many other common names) is a perennial grass species native to Central Asia and the Caucasus. It grows in sandy and rocky soils, and is often found in steppes, semi-deserts and alpine meadows. It has a tufted habit and can reach up to 1.5 meters in height. Its leaves are flat, narrow and have a fine texture.
Uses & Benefits
Elymus tenuis is used as an ornamental plant in gardens and parks. It is also used as a soil stabilizer and erosion control plant.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flower of Elymus tenuis is a spikelet with two to three florets. The seed is a small caryopsis with a single seed. The seedlings are thin and upright.
Cultivation and Propagation
Elymus tenuis is a perennial grass native to Eurasia. It is a low-growing, clump-forming grass that grows up to 1 foot tall and spreads by rhizomes. It prefers full sun and well-drained soils. Propagation is by seed or division of the rhizomes.
