It is native to tropical and subtropical regions of Africa, Asia, and Australia, and is found in disturbed areas, roadsides, and other disturbed habitats.
Uses & Benefits
Eleusine intermedia is used as a fodder crop and for erosion control. It is also used in traditional medicine to treat fever, stomach ailments, and as an anti-inflammatory.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flower of Eleusine intermedia is a small, yellow-green flower with a single stamen. The seed is a small, black, triangular seed. The seedlings are thin, grass-like with a single stem.
Cultivation and Propagation
Eleusine intermedia is an annual grass that is easily grown from seed. It prefers full sun and well-drained soil. It can be propagated by division or by seed. To propagate by seed, sow the seeds in a shallow furrow in the soil and cover lightly. Keep the soil moist until the seedlings emerge. Once the seedlings are established, thin the plants to the desired spacing.
