Description
Cinnagrostis rauhii (also called Rauh's Cinnagrostis, among many other common names) is a species of flowering plant in the Poaceae family. It is native to South America. It grows in dry grasslands, in rocky areas and in savannas.
Uses & Benefits
Cinnagrostis rauhii is used as an ornamental plant in gardens and as a groundcover in landscaping. It is also used in traditional medicine to treat a variety of ailments.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Cinnagrostis rauhii has small, white flowers with yellow anthers. The seeds are small and black, and the seedlings are slender and upright.
Cultivation and Propagation
Cinnagrostis rauhii can be propagated by seed or division. Seeds should be sown in spring in a cold frame. When they are large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and plant them out in the summer. Division in spring or autumn is also possible. Larger divisions can be planted out direct into their permanent positions. We have found it best to pot up the smaller divisions and grow them on in a cold frame until they are established before planting them out in late spring or early summer.
Where to Find Cinnagrostis rauhii
Cinnagrostis rauhii can be found in the tropical and subtropical regions of South America, including Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
