Chloothamnus schmutzii (also called 'Schmutzii' or 'Schmutzii Broom', among many other common names) is a deciduous shrub native to the western United States and Canada. It has a rounded crown and a straight trunk with smooth, gray bark. It grows in moist, well-drained soils in open woods, along streams, and in floodplains.
