Description
Cenchrus purpureus (also called Purple Cenchrus, among many other common names) is a perennial herb with a woody base and a stem up to 1 m tall. It is native to Brazil and grows in open areas and forest margins.

Cenchrus purpureus is used as an ornamental plant in gardens and is also used in erosion control.

Cenchrus purpureus has small, yellow flowers with a white center. The seed is a small, black, round seed. The seedlings have two small, narrow leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Cenchrus purpureus is a warm-season grass, native to tropical and subtropical regions of the world. It is best grown in full sun and prefers moist, well-drained soils. Propagation is usually done by seed, which can be broadcasted or drilled into prepared seedbeds. It is also possible to propagate Cenchrus purpureus through vegetative means, such as rhizomes and stolons.
