Description

Andropogon distachyos (also called Short Bluestem, among many other common names) is a perennial grass native to the southeastern United States. It grows in clumps up to 1.2 m tall and has long, narrow leaves that are usually blue-green in color. It is found in open woodlands, prairies, and savannas.

Cultivation and Propagation

Andropogon distachyos is a perennial grass native to the southeastern United States. It grows in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist, well-drained soils. It is easily propagated by seed or division. To propagate by seed, sow the seed in a prepared seedbed in the spring. To propagate by division, dig up a clump of the grass in the spring or fall and divide it into smaller clumps. Plant the clumps in prepared beds and water them well.
