Description
Acantholimon hystrix (also called Hystrix Prickly-thistle, among many other common names) is a species of flowering plant in the family Plumbaginaceae. It is a low-growing, evergreen shrub with narrow, grey-green leaves and small, white flowers. It is native to the Middle East, from Iran to Afghanistan, and grows in rocky, dry areas.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Acantholimon hystrix has small, white flowers that are clustered in the leaf axils. The seeds are small and black and the seedlings have small, oval-shaped leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Acantholimon hystrix is a low-growing, evergreen perennial that grows up to 10 cm tall. It prefers full sun and well-drained soil. Propagation is by division in spring or autumn. Cuttings can also be taken in spring.
